Maria is on a mission to guide speakers and presenters who want to unleash, free up and explore their full potential. When speakers learn how to free up self-expression, they discover an enormous amount of power, passion and inspiration within, and their speeches take on a new life!
Maria graduated from Berklee College of Music and worked in the performance arts as a professional jazz and blues vocalist in Boston and New York for twenty years. She studied with Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin. In addition, her thirst for self-expression led her into theater improvisation, acting, directing and voice over work.
Maria also worked in the nonprofit sector in Boston for many years. While working as an educator at a crisis center, she discovered her passion for public speaking. She developed and coordinated a Survivor Speaker’s Bureau. This speaker’s bureau was for trauma survivors who wanted to use public speaking as a tool for social change. She is proud to report that many of these speakers went on to successfully lobby for new state legislation and laws that support victims of violence.
She created and led “Life Skills” workshops for adult survivors of trauma and helped participants learn new strategies to cope and thrive in everyday life using story telling, role-play and the arts.
Maria is a certified speech coach. In addition, during the last ten years, she has studied and learned from great coaches, speakers and visionaries such as Patricia Fripp, Gail Larsen, Craig Valentine and Lynne Twist.
She is currently a member of the core coaching team at TEDxAlbuquerque, and prepares and coaches speakers for TED events.
Maria lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband, Jim and their cat, Amelie. Their backyard houses two happy beehives, a vegetable garden and an abundance of flowers, trees and desert plants.
